Government of Gilgit Balistan is the executive authority for the province. Giglit Balistan was made province of Pakistan many years after independence of the country. It was the year 2009 when this announcement was finalized by the federal government of Pakistan by ordinance of Self Governance of the same year. Gilgit Balistan is now the fifth province of Pakistan. Province is administrated by the two most senior heads who are called governor and chief minister. Governor is the supreme head for whole of the province. Chief Minister is the elected representative for the provincial government.

Legalisation is done by the provincial assembly. There are many members elected by the local public in it. Majority party in it forms the government while the minority ones remain in the oppositions. There are many departments of the government. Each one is managed by the minister who is selected by the chief minister. There are many ministers in the cabinet of the chief minister. Local government has many intiatives for the better welfare of the Gilgit Balistan region however they are less and more work is to be done by the local people and governmental professionals.
