The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has formally approved the official UHS Academic Calendar Fall 2026 for undergraduate degree programs across Punjab. In a significant policy announcement aimed at streamlining higher medical education, the university has issued clear guidelines regarding class commencement dates, vacant seat allocations, examination timetables, and entrance test exemptions for future academic cycles.
The key decisions were finalized during the 43rd meeting of the Board of Studies for Allied Health Sciences, presided over by UHS Vice Chancellor Maj Gen (retd) Prof. Sohail Sabir. The comprehensive framework establishes strict operational deadlines for all public and private affiliated institutions throughout the province to ensure academic uniformity, quality clinical training, and transparent institutional accountability.
Under the directives issued by the university, all affiliated medical colleges and health institutes offering BS Allied Health Sciences programs must adhere strictly to the newly established Fall 2026 schedule.
The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has fixed November 16 as the firm deadline for all affiliated colleges across Punjab to commence regular academic classes for the Fall Semester 2026. All institutions have been instructed to finalize orientation activities and complete preliminary administrative processes prior to this date so that full-fledged teaching routines begin without delay.
To prevent instructional disruption and minimize loss of academic time for prospective health professionals, UHS has mandated that all remaining vacant seats must be filled by November 30.
Crucially, the university ordered institutions to fill these vacancies strictly through pre-existing waiting lists. Colleges are explicitly prohibited from issuing fresh admission advertisements for these seats. This decision safeguards applicant merit while ensuring that seats in competitive allied health disciplines do not remain unfilled during the upcoming term.
To maintain a standardized academic structure across all affiliated teaching centers, the Board of Studies for Allied Health Sciences has formally fixed the comprehensive examination schedule for both semesters of the session:
First-Semester Final Examinations: Written and practical assessments for the Fall 2026 intake are scheduled to commence on April 5, 2027.
Second-Semester Final Examinations: Assessments for the subsequent spring term will officially begin on September 13, 2027.
This structured timeline ensures that students receive the full required contact hours for both theoretical coursework and hospital rotations before undergoing professional evaluations.
Looking ahead to the upcoming academic year, the 43rd meeting of the Board of Studies for Allied Health Sciences introduced major policy adjustments regarding entry requirements for undergraduate admissions.
Starting in 2027, admissions for all BS Allied Health Sciences programs will officially begin only after the completion and official announcement of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT).
In a candidate-friendly move designed to reduce multiple entry tests and financial burden on students, candidate performance in the entry test will directly determine testing exemptions:
Candidates who achieve at least 50% marks in MDCAT will be completely exempted from taking separate entrance tests for BS Allied Health Sciences programs.
This streamlined entrance policy allows pre-medical students to utilize their MDCAT performance across multiple professional health disciplines, including Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), Medical Imaging Technology (MIT), Operation Theatre Technology (OTT), Optometry, and Physical Therapy.
Beyond schedules and admission criteria, UHS Vice Chancellor Maj Gen (retd) Prof. Sohail Sabir outlined a robust roadmap aimed at modernizing practical health instruction and enforcing academic standards across Punjab.
To ensure allied health students gain hands-on clinical skills before interacting with patients, UHS plans to build a state-of-the-art Central Simulation Laboratory. This advanced facility is being established in technical collaboration with Robert Gordon University (UK), bringing international standards of clinical simulation and practical emergency training to affiliated students.
Acknowledging rapid advancements in digital health care, the university is actively exploring the integration of artificial intelligence in teaching and curriculum design. Modernized educational modules will leverage AI-driven diagnostic tools, digital learning assets, and virtual clinical case studies to better prepare students for modern healthcare environments.
To maintain high standards across all teaching centers, UHS is introducing strict oversight mechanisms for its affiliated public and private institutions.
The Vice Chancellor announced that UHS will implement custom performance dashboards to continuously track, assess, and monitor college performance, instructor competency, and terminal examination outcomes.
Scrutiny of Low-Performing Colleges: Institutions recording high student failure rates in professional university examinations will no longer operate without scrutiny. UHS will require low-performing institutions to formally explain whether high failure rates stemmed from deficiencies in institutional facilities, inadequate clinical access, or poor faculty performance.
UHS has explicitly linked future institutional growth to academic excellence. Approvals for future increases in admission seats will strictly depend on a college’s historical academic performance and professional examination pass rates. Institutions demonstrating consistently superior pass rates, high teaching standards, and well-equipped laboratory infrastructure will receive priority preference when extra seat allocations are distributed.
