Karachi: Two senior professors associated with Aga Khan University (AKU) have been awarded prestigious national awards as part of the Independence Day custom.
Professor Syed Ather Enam, head of the Department of Surgery at AKU, received the third highest civilian award of Pakistan, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, for his work in the medicine field.
Likewise, Professor Zulfiqar Bhutta, the founding director of the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health at AKU, has been honoured along with a ‘Pride of Performance’ award for his contributions to healthcare education.
President Mamnoon Hussain presented the prestigious awards on Independence Day, and he also announced the awards for a number of Pakistani citizens as well as the foreign residents for representing excellence in their respective fields.

While commenting on the honours for AKU doctors, Farhat Abbas, dean of the medical college at AKU, said:
“Throughout their careers, Dr Enam and Dr Bhutta have upheld the highest standards in their relevant fields.
A generation of surgeons as well as researchers has honed their abilities under their supervision and is making an impression in their selected fields of service.”
