Teachers of Medical Universities Have Demanded to Increase Age Limit for Scholarships in Abroad

The teachers of medical universities of Pakistan are facing trouble to attain scholarships for doing MPhill and PhD in foreign countries because of age limit. The Government of Pakistan has age limit of 40 years to avail scholarships funded by Higher Commission of Pakistan (HEC).  Majority of teachers fail to avail benefit from these scholarships because of age limit. On the contrary, the teachers belonging from engineering and general science streams avail these scholarships.

Vice Chancellor of Sindh Medical University, Dr Tariq Rafi has advised HEC to hire a Medical Director as Adviser Director General in HEC to resolve problems of medical teachers. He said the age limit must be set at least 45 years as the medical teachers are unable to avail these HEC scholarships. Commenting about this issue Dean of Medicine Dr Nargis Anjum of Karachi University said the duration of medical education is more than other educational streams. After graduation from medical university the students have to do house job and practice. Therefore, in her suggestion the age limit for availing HEC scholarships must be at least set at 42 years.

Adviser Human Resource Development, Higher Education Commission, Wasim Hashmi, commented on HEC’s behalf, he said, 40 years age limit is enough to avail HEC scholarships. The age limit is being set by Government of Pakistan itself, there is going to be no relief in this respect.
