Scholarship named after FMDC student

Islamabad: The Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University has decided to start a scholarship under the name of late Dr Anam Rustam after getting approval from the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain.

The hostel of the Federal Medical and Dental College (FMDC) would be named after Dr Rustam as well. Moreover, a gold medal as well as cash prize would be granted to the highest achiever of the institute annually.

Dr Rustam was an aspirant from the pioneer batch of the FMDC who died on March 04^th, 2017 this year at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) where she was to start her house job in only ten days.

The incident took place because of the leakage of gas from an instantaneous geyser installed in the bathroom. Dr Rustam suffered carbon monoxide assassinating. Afterwards, she was instantly taken to a private hospital where she remained hospitalized for almost 4 days.

As per the issued letter by the presidency, the merit-cum-need based scholarship would be granted to a female aspirant who has achieved more than 70% marks in FSc and has less than Rs 50,000 per month income of family.

Rustam Khan, the father of the dead, told the media sources: “I have worked as a clerk in my life and spent all of my savings on the education of my daughter however she died before becoming a doctor. It is an honour that annually one student will get a scholarship and gold medal named after my daughter because of which she will be remembered.”

The vice chancellor of PIMS Dr Javed Akram confirmed that every year one female aspirant will get a scholarship as well as the highest achiever of the final batch will be granted a gold medal and One lakh Rupees cash in the name of Dr Rustam.
