Rawalpindi Board Launches Real-Time Monitoring of Matric Exam Centers to Ensure Transparency

The Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) has officially launched a real-time online monitoring system for matriculation examination centers. The initiative aims to eradicate cheating, enhance transparency, and create a fair evaluation environment for thousands of students across the district.

The board has established a state-of-the-art command and control center, which functions as the central nervous system for exam surveillance. Through high-definition CCTV cameras installed at various locations, officials can now observe examination halls live, flagging any irregularities as they happen.

According to board authorities, the system is designed to detect suspicious activities instantly. This proactive approach replaces the traditional, reactive model of flying squads and physical inspections, ensuring that unfair means are curbed before they can disrupt the examination process.

Live Monitoring Underway at Over 100 Examination Centers

Providing details of the rollout, Rawalpindi Board Secretary Amjad Iqbal confirmed that live streaming is already operational at 100 examination centers across the jurisdiction. The feeds from these centers are being directly transmitted to the newly established command center, where a dedicated team monitors multiple screens simultaneously.

In addition to the live-streamed locations, security cameras have been installed at 150 other centers. While these centers may not be under live watch 24/7, their backup footage is being securely stored by the board for post-exam review and evidence collection.

Secretary Iqbal noted that the system is scalable. “We plan to expand this technology to additional centers in the coming months,” he said. “The goal is to gradually reduce our reliance on physical monitoring teams and move toward a fully integrated digital surveillance network.”

Rs 40 Million in Projected Cost Savings

Beyond the integrity benefits, the digital monitoring system is expected to yield significant financial efficiencies for the board. By decreasing the need for large, roaming physical monitoring squads complete with travel allowances and logistical support—the board anticipates saving approximately Rs 40 million in operational costs.

These funds, officials say, can be redirected toward improving educational resources and student services. Amjad Iqbal emphasized that the primary objective of the initiative is not punitive but constructive: to provide students with a transparent and fair examination system where they can demonstrate their abilities purely through merit.

“Every student deserves the confidence that their hard work will be judged equally,” Iqbal stated. “This system protects the honest student and deters those who might consider taking shortcuts.”

Swift Action Taken Against Cheating in Chakwal

The real-time system has already proven its effectiveness. Within days of its activation, authorities identified multiple cases of malpractice. Notably, two candidates in the Chakwal district have been formally booked for using unfair means during their matriculation exams.

Board officials confirmed that the command-and-control center captured the violations clearly on camera, allowing for immediate intervention. The accused students now face disciplinary action under the board’s examination bylaws, which may include cancellation of their results and a ban from future exams.

Officials have warned that this is just the beginning. The system will continue to operate throughout the examination period, and any violation captured on camera will result in swift, documented action.

Strengthening the Education System’s Credibility

Education experts and parents have largely welcomed the move, noting that examination malpractice has long tarnished the credibility of secondary education in the region. By introducing real-time monitoring, the Rawalpindi Board is aligning itself with modern international examination standards.

The board has also assured students that the cameras are positioned to monitor hall discipline and invigilator performance, not to invade personal privacy. Strict data protocols are in place to ensure that footage is used solely for examination integrity purposes.

With the successful launch of this initiative, the Rawalpindi Board sets a precedent for other educational boards in Pakistan. As the system expands to cover more centers and incorporates advanced analytics such as motion detection and automated alerting the future of matric exams in the region looks increasingly transparent and fair.
