The Punjab government has rolled out its first large-scale internship initiative aimed at strengthening the livestock sector while creating professional opportunities for the youth. The program, backed by a budget of Rs. 600 million, will offer paid internships to 1,000 veterinary graduates and paraveterinary professionals across the province.
In a similar way under the scheme of the Chief Minister- internship program, candidates who have a doctor of veterinary medicine Dr (DVM) will get a salary monthly of Rs. 60,000, whereas those holding a two-year Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD) will be entitled to Rs. 40,000 per month. Eligible candidates can apply the forms through the official government job portal at jobs.punjab.gov.pk.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the initiative is designed to make animal healthcare services more accessible for farmers while equipping young professionals with valuable field exposure. She highlighted that the project is not only a financial support scheme for graduates but also a step toward modernizing Punjab’s livestock and dairy sector.
“Our goal is to transform Punjab into a center of livestock and dairy development. Enhancing milk and meat production will enable the province to contribute more effectively to foreign exchange reserves. We stand shoulder to shoulder with livestock farmers and will continue to support them,” she remarked.
The government has also earmarked specific quotas for Veterinary Assistants, Artificial Insemination (AI) Technicians, and Lab Assistants in all 36 districts of Punjab, ensuring that the benefits of the program reach rural communities at the grassroots level.
