Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has officially published the academic calendar and lesson plans of the academic year 2025-26 for intermediate. The package gives colleges a road map in which teaching times, assessment timelines, co-curricular events and other activities of the year are clearly stated in the package and the students, teachers and administrators are well informed of what to expect next year.
In the released material, it is stated that an eleven-member Lesson Plan Development Committee made up the lesson plan. The committee has the responsibility of giving formal names to subject in-charges in colleges, so that each subject in a college has a specific academic head to guide the delivery process and also monitor all progress at a college level. This systematic strategy aims at standardizing teaching in institutions and assisting teachers to time syllabi at the same pace through out the year.
The academic calendar does not only provide the term dates and exam dates, but also incorporates the syllabus revision and update as released by the Punjab Textbook Board. By matching the lesson plans with the revised materials found in the Board, the HED will ensure that there is no discrepancy between the textbooks and the lessons taught and that the assessment and revision processes are streamlined to the students. Co-curricular and annual events are also found on the calendar to ensure a balanced academic year where extracurricular development is included to go hand in hand with classroom learning.
An institutionalized, published province-wide calendar and uniform lesson plan can minimize uncertainty to the institutions, particularly at the commencement of a session. Teachers will be able to plan their unit plans and assessment beforehand, colleges will be able to plan their examinations and events without conflicts, and students will have a greater idea of the pacing of the course, how they will be assessed and when, and how to study. According to the officials, the calendar enhances transparency and consistency, and it allows monitoring the teaching progress and finishing the syllabus in time.
As the calendar is published, colleges will be forced to rework internal schedules, inform students and parents about in-charges of subjects and distribute term plans. The notifications of the Punjab Textbook Board should be cross-referenced with the lists of textbooks and supplementary materials to be used in the institution. The teachers will also be encouraged to plan formative assessment and remedial sessions ahead of time using the month-wise lesson breaks (where available). The fact that the HED has remained in the annual practice of releasing a revised calendar assists the institutions to be ready in the event of any change in the policy or syllabus, with minimal interference.
The in-charge names are provided in the lesson plan which was prepared by a committee of eleven people. The academic calendar includes topics like teaching schedules, exams, co-curricular activities and includes updates on syllabus by the Textbook Board. This relocation is the continuation of the yearly tradition of the HED to issue the new academic roadmaps to college.
