LAHORE, A memorandum of understanding was signed on Monday between the Punjab government and a renowned university of Istanbul, Fatiehn, regarding cooperation in improvement of education sector.

The MoU was signed by Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on behalf of the Punjab government and by the Fetiehn University Rector Prof Serif Ali Tajalan on behalf of the university.

Under the agreement, the Punjab government will send 50 brilliant male and female students to Fetiehn University on its own expenses for post-graduation and PhD while besides mutual exchange of delegations of teachers and students, cooperation will also be extended in research activities. Scientific knowledge will also be exchanged under the agreement.

MPAs Khawaja Salman Rafique, Mian Mohsin Latif, Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan and TEVTA chairman were also present. The agreement was signed during the visit of the Punjab chief minister to the university.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that nothing could be better than starting his day with a visit to a renowned seat of learning. He said that it was encouraging that there were 700 PhD teachers and 11,000 students in Fatiehn University. He said that uplift of education sector and imparting latest knowledge to the youth was priority of his government and he was thankful to the Fetiehn University rector for agreeing to set up the university in Lahore as well. He said that Punjab government would provide an excellent location for the Fetiehn University in Lahore. He said that the agreement reached between Fetiehn University and Punjab government would prove to be a milestone in the promotion of education as well as relations between the two countries. He said that affection of Turkish people with Pakistan was unparalleled and Turkey had stood by Pakistan in every hour of need. He said that the close relations between Turkey and Pakistan would strengthen with the passage of time. He said that he had felt the same warmth and sincerity in Turkey as he felt at his home. The chief minister also invited the rector and vice-chancellor of Fetiehn University to participate in the inaugural ceremony of Daanish Schools.
