Punjab Government Announces Revised School Timings for Ramadan 2026

The School Education Department of the Government of the Punjab has officially released the revised school timings to be observed across all educational institutions in the province during the upcoming holy month of Ramzan-ul-Mubarik 2026 . The notification, issued on February 16th, aims to facilitate students and staff who will be observing fasts during the sacred month.

The new schedule provides clear guidelines for both single-shift and double-shift schools, ensuring a uniform system throughout Punjab. The key changes are designed to accommodate the spiritual and physical needs of the fasting individuals while maintaining the continuity of the academic session.

Detailed Schedule for Single-Shift Schools

According to the official notification, schools operating on a single-shift basis will see a reduction in school hours. For the majority of the week, from Monday to Thursday , classes will commence at 8:30 AM and conclude at 1:00 PM .

A shorter day has been scheduled for Fridays , which are considered a significant day in Islam. On Fridays, single-shift schools will operate from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM . This adjusted timing allows students and teachers additional time to prepare for and observe the weekly congregational prayers.

Timetable for Double-Shift Schools

For institutions operating on a double-shift system, the department has issued a bifurcated schedule to manage both morning and evening batches effectively.

  • Morning Shift: From Monday to Thursday, the morning session will run from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM . On Friday, the morning shift will follow the same timing, concluding at 12:30 PM .

  • Evening/Afternoon Shift: The second shift will see a slight adjustment in start times. From Monday to Thursday, the evening session is scheduled from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM . However, on Fridays, the start of the second shift has been pushed back to 2:30 PM and will end at 5:00 PM .

Special Consideration for Girls' Schools

In a move highlighting the department's attention to specific needs, the notification includes a special clause for girls' educational institutions. It explicitly states that the opening and closing time for Girls Schools shall be 15 minutes earlier than the timings mentioned for the respective shifts.

This means that if a single-shift girls' school is scheduled to open at 8:30 AM, it will now open at 8:15 AM. Similarly, the evening shift for girls' schools will commence at 12:45 PM instead of 1:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, and at 2:15 PM on Fridays. This provision is often implemented to ensure the safe and timely return of female students to their homes, particularly during the month when societal rhythms change.

Objective of the Revised Schedule

The Secretary of the School Education Department, Muddassir Riaz Malik , who signed the notification, stated that the primary objective is to ease the routine for students and educational staff during Ramadan. Fasting during long school hours can be physically demanding, especially for younger children. By shortening the school day, the government aims to reduce fatigue and allow students to manage their worship, rest, and studies more effectively.

The notification, issued from Dated: 16th February, 2026, has been circulated to all key wings of the department for information and implementation. Copies have been forwarded to the Secretary of the School Education Department, the Special Secretary (Operations), and other relevant offices to ensure compliance across the province.

All public and private educational institutions in Punjab are expected to adhere to these timings for the duration of Ramzan-ul-Mubarik. The move has been generally welcomed by parents and teachers who believe it strikes a necessary balance between academic obligations and religious observance during the holy month.
