Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board Approves Condensed Syllabus for Secondary and Intermediate Elective Subjects

LAHORE: The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) has approved a condensed syllabus for elective subjects at the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) levels. The decision aims to facilitate students and educational institutions by providing a revised learning framework according to available academic time and examination requirements.

The approval of the condensed syllabus is expected to help students manage their academic workload effectively while focusing on important topics included in their respective subjects. The revised syllabus covers various elective subjects taught at matriculation and intermediate levels.

According to details, the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board approved the Accelerated Learning Programmes (ALPs) for several elective subjects at grades IX-X and XI-XII. These programmes were designed to support students by reducing unnecessary academic burden and ensuring completion of essential course content within the given timeframe.

The elective subjects included in the condensed syllabus involve multiple disciplines such as language, technical, social and vocational subjects. These include subjects related to Arabic, Urdu, Punjabi, Persian, Pashto, Medical Laboratory Technology, Dental Hygiene, Child Development and Family Living, Embroidery and Management for Better Homes among others.

Education experts believe that curriculum adjustments can play an important role in improving students’ learning experiences, especially when academic schedules are affected by various challenges. A focused syllabus allows students and teachers to dedicate more time to understanding key concepts rather than covering excessive course material.

The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board has also emphasized that the approved syllabus will be shared with educational institutions and relevant stakeholders for implementation. The concerned boards and institutions will follow the updated guidelines while preparing students for secondary and intermediate examinations.
