PMC Starts National Medical Scholarship Fund

The Pakistan Medical Commission has started the National Scholarship Fund. The objective of this PMC scholarships fund 2021 is to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships on a need and merit basis to the candidates that are admitted to the medical and dental colleges of Pakistan. The candidates have to maintain a prescribed standard of merit and the scholarship or loan is paid directly towards the college fee of the student. A scholarship grant will be paid towards the student’s tuition fee directly to the college and shall not be repayable by the student to the Trust. The scholarship or student loan that may be granted to a student will not exceed the annual tuition fee of the student. It will be ensured by the authorities that the applications are available to all eligible students to apply for a scholarship or student loan and the candidates have to apply through the PMC online portal.

National Medical Scholarship Fund

The scholarship or student loan will be assessed on the basis of the need and merit of the student and will be processed on the basis of a declared transparent structure. For purposes of need, the resources available to the student in the form of family income and other assistance including other scholarships obtained will be considered. For purposes of merit, the student's marks as obtained in the MDCAT exam will be the primary criteria and the student's performance in the HSSC program may also be considered. The quantum of scholarship or loan will be dependent on the funds available with the Trust for a given year and on the basis of five-year planning of funds being available.

Eligibility Criteria

• Any candidate who is eligible to take admission to a medical or dental college in Pakistan recognized by the Pakistan Medical Commission and subject to having obtained admission can apply for a scholarship or student loan.

• A student granted a scholarship or student loan will receive the same for the period it has been granted subject to remain enrolled in the program in good standing.

• A scholarship or student loan will be renewed annually; provided that the student achieves and maintains the academic or merit benchmarks applicable throughout their program of study for retaining the grant; Moreover, no student will receive a scholarship or loan for a period beyond the defined minimum period of the program.

• If a student fails to qualify for any professional exam in two attempts, the scholarship granted will be immediately canceled and a student loan will stand recalled and become repayable within the duration mentioned in such situation by the concerned authorities.

Approval of Scholarship 

An applicant shall be informed before 31st December of each year whether their application for a scholarship or loan has been approved and to the extent of its value. The college shall upon the student being admitted submit the original Approval Note granted by the Trust to the trustees. The trustees will pay the approved amount directly to the college to the benefit of the student's account within fifteen days of submission of the original Approval Note. A scholarship awarded to the candidate will not vest in the student a right to take the admission to medical or dental college and will only be applicable and binding if the student acquired admission strictly on merit. The approval note will be a provisional grant of scholarship and will become final on the admission of the student to a medical and dental college.
