Murree: A female school teacher was set on fire by unknown men in Murree after she allegedly rejected the marriage proposal, news channel reported.


An 18 years old female in Pakistan was reportedly set on fire as she refused for a marriage proposal.


The female suffered severe burns and she was shifted in a very critical condition to PIMS hospital in Islamabad where she died. According to the medical sources, approximately 70 percent (70%) of the target’s body was burnt in the incident.

The tragic incident took place in Union Council Dewal of Murree, where the unknown persons physically attacked a female teacher, extinguished her along with the petrol and set on fire.

Maria Abbasi was at home and was looking after her five years old sister whereas the rest of her family went to attend a funeral when total 4 men attacked and burned her. Her family members claimed that she had been attacked for refusing the marriage proposal of a male teacher at her school.

The victim's aunt Asia told the media sources that:


"She was teaching at their school. They sent in the proposal six months back but the guy was already married and he had a daughter. They wanted her to run their school after marrying the son of the owner of the school”.


"Her father rejected the marriage proposal and they took the revenge by doing this tragic act."

Abbasi's family hurriedly reached home after got informed, however according to her uncle Rafaqat Abbasi, "Maria was lying on the floor along with 85% of her body covered in burns".


"There is no direct main road that passes through the village that’s why we had to carry Maria on a chair to the nearby road to get her to an ambulance" he said.


Firstly the girl was taken to the local hospital before being transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences’ Burn Centre in Islamabad, 50km away from her village, where she died from her wounds.

Three of the 4 suspects have been arrested and an arrest warrant has also been issued for the fourth man, said Punjab police representative Nabeela Ghazanfar.
