Pakistan Institute of Robotic Science (PIRS) To Be Allotted With Equipment of Worth Rs 80m

The Higher Commission of Pakistan (HEC) has allowed the budget of Rs 80m to purchase the necessary equipage required in Pakistan Institute of Robotic Science (PIRS). As per the official statement of HEC officials on Wednesday that the said amount will be spend on PIRS head quarter and also on its five attached centers. This amount will also be utilized to hire required employees in all six PIRS centers.

Last year, a sum of Rupees 400 m was decided to be allotted to PIRS out of which Rupees 80 m are released on Wednesday. It is told to the press that 20 employees are likely to be hired immediately who are urgently required in Robotic Center of National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and 10 employees will be hired in other attached five centers being established in COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Punjab University, CIIT University Peshawar, NED University Karachi, and Lahore Engineering University.

According to the details revealed to the press about ongoing research programmes in Punjab University and NUST sources told, research for the development of the agriculture sector is being conducted in the Robotic center of NUST and in Punjab University’s Robotic center research on the development of Transportation system was underway, aiming to cover areas regarding infrastructure, command, control, monitoring and security is being conducted.

COMSATS is working on development of health care and CUI is working on medical sector. HEC had demanded input from all the Universities of Pakistan out of which only six universities were selected to take part in Robotic Science Programme. The selection was being done the basis of research papers, products and merit.

HEC Chairman Meets Turkish Ambassador, Collaboration with Turkish Higher Education Institutions Discussed

HEC Chairman Dr Tariq Banuri met Ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul on Wednesday. The meeting was called by the Turkish Ambassador. Dr Banuri stressed upon the need of initiating more collaborative partnerships between Pakistan and Turkish higher education institutions. Replying to Dr Banuri the Ambassador said that he had visited many Universities of Pakistan and researched about the academic collaboration scope.

A vocational training center is under consideration to be established with collaboration of Turkish Government the Ambassador said during the meeting. He also said that Turkey wants to expand its academic relationships with Pakistan and it will provide any aid for this purpose. It will be worth mentioning here that a large number of Pakistani students study in Turkish Universities under HEC funded and Turkish Government funded scholarship programmes.
