Peshawar: Almost 38 projects were exhibited by the aspirants of department of mechanical engineering, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar on Wednesday.

These projects were displayed during an exhibition which was arranged by the university in association along with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Oil and Gas Company Limited and American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Approximately 190 aspirants from various groups participated in the event. The exhibition was targeted at providing a platform to scholars to present their mechanical projects that they had completed during their final academic year.

The vice chancellor of university of engineering and technology (UET) Iftikhar Hussain was the chief guest on the event. He praised the efforts of the graduating aspirants.

While talking to media persons, he said such projects lessen the space between the students and the industry as the large number of top industrialists has also been invited to the exhibition.

He particularly applauded the efforts of chairperson of Mechanical Engineering Department Prof Naeem Khattak as well as other faculty members under whose guidance the projects were made.

The VC moreover said that:


“These projects are special as they have the research factor attached to them.”


The projects made by the aspirants were mostly of the industrial level having practical usage at local level.

A board of judges from mechanical engineering department appraised the projects based on their presentation as well as work efficiency. Out of 36 projects, three projects were declared the best projects whereas the six special prizes were also given under various classes.

The first prize was won by the aspirants who made the project entitled as ‘Mechanical Characterization of Fiberglass Reinforced Composite’.

The second prize was awarded to a project entitled as ‘Design and Fabrication of Gravity Water Pump’.

The third prize was won by a project entitled as‘Mechanical Testing and Failure Analysis of Photovoltaic Modules’.

On the event, Rs15, 000 were given to the best project, whereas Rs10, 000 and Rs5, 000 were given to second as well as third best projects, respectively.

In the meantime, Rs4, 000 were given to other projects.
