Medical universities have announced to implement a single national curriculum for the post graduate training. All the affiliated authorities of the different provinces such as Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh and KP have agreed to develop a unified syllabus for the students. It has been suggested that the new curriculum will be based on the six competencies such as patient care, communication, and interpersonal skills, medical knowledge, practice-based learning professionalism, and system-based practices. The model of the accreditation council for graduate medical education will be used. 

Weightage of Competencies

It has been said that the weightage of the competencies will differ that include patient care & medical knowledge 40%, professionalism 30%, communication and interpersonal skills, medical knowledge 20% and research10%. Through the curriculum, the model of the post graduate medical education will be shifted to the training mode. The doctors will be trained for 4 to 5 years and performance will be assessed during the training duration. By the internal assessment, the trainees will get instant feedback about their performance and work hard to improve themselves by consulting with their supervisor. 

Internal Assessment

On the basis of the directly observed procedures and case based discussions the clinical skills will be assessed. The assessment will be done after six months and then given the weightage to the final summative assessment. Moreover, each trainee is required to write the paper in a specific journal and it must be published. The trainees have to complete the workshops, necessary training, and lectures as specified in the foreign countries and there will be a well-devised research curriculum. By adopting this single national curriculum in the medical universities all the deficiencies in medical education can be removed easily. It is expected that this decision will be implemented soon for the postgraduate system education in Pakistan to provide the better opportunities to the students.
