KP Announces Summer Vacations 2026 for Colleges and Universities Across the Province

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Higher Education Department has officially announced summer vacations for public and private colleges and universities across the province. The decision has been taken to provide relief to students, teachers, and administrative staff during the peak summer season while ensuring that academic activities and examinations continue according to schedule.

According to an official notification issued by the department, educational institutions located in the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will remain closed for summer holidays from June 15 to August 31, 2026. Meanwhile, colleges and universities situated in the colder mountainous regions of the province will observe summer vacations from July 1 to July 31, 2026.

Summer Vacation Schedule for KP Colleges and Universities

The newly announced vacation schedule applies to both public and private higher education institutions operating under the jurisdiction of the KP Higher Education Department.

Under the notification:

  • Colleges and universities in plain areas will remain closed from June 15 to August 31, 2026.
  • Educational institutions located in colder and mountainous regions will observe vacations from July 1 to July 31, 2026.
  • Examinations scheduled during the vacation period will continue as planned.
  • Academic activities related to ongoing four-year BS degree programs will proceed according to the approved semester calendar.

The department stated that the different vacation schedules have been designed to accommodate varying weather conditions across the province.

Academic Activities and Examinations to Continue

While announcing the KP summer vacations 2026, the Higher Education Department clarified that the closure of campuses will not affect examinations and essential academic activities.

Students enrolled in four-year BS programs and other semester-based courses will continue to follow their approved academic schedules. Universities and colleges have been instructed to ensure that all educational requirements are completed without unnecessary delays.

The notification further emphasized that examinations planned during the vacation period will be conducted according to the previously announced timetable. Students appearing in annual, supplementary, semester, or professional examinations will be required to attend their exams as scheduled.

Institutions Directed to Maintain Academic Calendar

The Higher Education Department has directed all colleges and universities to make necessary arrangements to maintain academic continuity despite the summer break.

Officials have stressed that institutions must complete course requirements, assessments, and examination-related responsibilities in accordance with established academic policies. Educational administrators have also been advised to ensure that students receive timely information regarding examination dates and academic schedules.

The move aims to strike a balance between providing relief from extreme weather conditions and maintaining the smooth functioning of the higher education system.

Relief for Students and Staff Amid Rising Temperatures

The announcement comes as temperatures continue to rise in many parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Summer vacations are expected to provide much-needed relief to thousands of students, teachers, and university staff members across the province.

Educational experts believe that temporary closures during the hottest months can help reduce health risks associated with extreme heat while allowing institutions to prepare for the next academic session.

At the same time, authorities have reiterated that the academic calendar will remain intact and that examinations and semester activities will not face disruption due to the summer holidays.

KP Summer Vacations 2026 Officially Announced

The announcement of KP Summer Vacations 2026 brings clarity for students and educational institutions planning their academic activities over the coming months. While campuses in plain areas will remain closed for more than two months, institutions in colder regions will observe a shorter vacation period due to relatively moderate weather conditions.

Students are advised to stay in contact with their respective colleges and universities for updates regarding examinations, semester schedules, and other academic matters during the vacation period.
