King of Swing ‘Wasim Akram’ receives honorary fellowship

The King of swing Wasim Akram receives honorary fellowship from the University of Central Lancashire in front of a packed audience at Preston's Guild Hall on Wednesday.

An overwhelming swing bowler and undoubtedly hitter of a cricket ball grabs this fellowship for his contribution in cricket during his honorable career. Akram, who gave his Test debut for Pakistan in 1985, has grabbed more wickets than any other bowler in the World Cup. He is among one of the three men who took four international hat-tricks and last-but-not-the-least has the record for the maximum total by a number eight in Tests matches.

His record of 502 One-Day International wickets and 414 test wickets are national level records.  

The 50-year-old- athlete while addressing to the crowd said that it’s a huge honor and privilege for him to receive this honorary fellowship. He further added that he have never thought that he would be wearing this academic robe and would get this fellowship from such a prestigious university.

The former-all-rounder said that he have played for Lancashire for 11 years so he said that he love Lancashire, he love playing for Lancashire and he still have a house here and visits here to meet his friends who are really welcoming and hospitable.

While addressing to the crowd he said that there are no shortcuts in life, nothing in life in easy, but the people over here are in a fortunate place and they do have best opportunities. He further added that my message to them is clear that hard work conquers.

The spokesperson for the University of Central Lancashire said on this occasion that we are pleased to give an honorary fellowship to a legend of sport who has boundless sympathy with our country.
