HEC Stops BA/BSC and MA/MSC (2-Year Study Programs) Throughout Pakistan

Recently, HEC organized a committee in which education experts from different universities participated. The committee has decided that there is no more BA/BSC and MA/MSC study programs will exist in Pakistani education standard. According to this announcement BA/BSC (14 years of education) and MA/MSC (16 years of education), students can take admission and complete their degrees until 2018 and 2020 study sessions respectively. The decision was taken by keeping in view all the rights and regulations of the education system and this step will be proved as a good turn into the education system of Pakistan.

There are many reasons behind this new policy by Higher Education Commission, PEC and one of most efficient is that the employers and international institutes get confusion when students appear with a bachelor degree of 14 years and at the same time a bachelor degree of 16 years (honors degree). In order to get rid of this issue, the study standard of Pakistan is going to be equal to the study standard which is acceptable and running throughout the world.

Support Program for BA/BSC Degree Holders   

However, at the same time Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, HEC also recognized a support program for students holding a BA/BSC 14-year degree. According to this program, students who want to take admission in postgraduate studies will be able to get admission in BS (4-year degree program). Students after meeting with specific criteria will be able to continue their studies from 5^th semester of BS study program in the relevant subject.

At the same time, students who do not want to involve into postgraduate studies and want to get prestigious positions in markets and want to organize business purposes will be able to get associate degrees (AD) equivalent to 14-year education. These associate degrees will be categorized in the following terms:

• Associate Degree Programs (ADP)
• Associate Degree in Science (ADS)
• Associate Degree in Arts (ADA)

HEC confirms that these policies will be implemented with immediate effect.
