Islamabad: The chairperson of higher education commission (HEC) on Wednesday said that the doubtful educational institutes are selling fake degrees in the capital.

Speaking in front of the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training, the chairperson of higher education commission Dr Mukhtar Ahmad called for stronger rule to control the rapid increase of commercial universities which cause danger to the future of the youth as well as waste money of the parents.

The committee, in its meeting organized under the headship of Senator Rahila Magsi, asked the Minister for Federal Education Muhammad Balighur Rahman as well as the chairperson of higher education commission to solve the issues faced by the aspirants of Islamabad Law College.

Baligh assured the committee that the education ministry as well as higher education commission will try to find a solution to affiliation of college with Islamia University Bahawalpur.

Taking up a public complaint, the board heard Mohammad Akmal, a student of Islamabad Law College.

Akmal told the committee that he took admission in the college in earlier in 2015 after paying Rs 60,000 as fee for LLB part 1. Though, after giving the exams for part one, he was told that the IUB has ended its affiliation with the college.

Apart from Akmal, approximately 209 aspirants of the college who had completed LLB part 1 were looking for the admissions in LLB part 2; however no college was willing to take them in. Islamabad Law College was not even announcing the results of the exams, said Akmal.

The chairperson of higher education commission, while briefing the committee, said that the college was supposedly involved in the sale of fake degrees.

The commission had warned the institute not to accept the new admissions plus to solve the issue of its affiliation within 6 months.

He said that the college, instead of following the orders of higher education commission, started further admissions after getting a stay order from the court.

Dr Ahmed said that the higher education commission had warned the aspirants as well as the parents through an alert published in the national newspapers and on its official website not to look for the admissions in fake colleges and institutions.

The Senator Wazir said that it was not enough to publish just an alert adding that the commission should have closed down the educational institute.

He suggested conducting the tests by a third party and get the aspirants adjusted in other educational institutes.

Dr Ahmed said that the illegal educational institutes have become a main issue of the country and suggested giving a demo on the issue.
