China Launches 75 Fully-Funded Scholarships for 2026-27 Academic Year to Strengthen Pakistan Ties

To deepen bilateral educational cooperation, the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) has officially announced 75 fully-funded scholarships for Pakistani students for the academic year 2026-27. This prestigious initiative, fully funded by the Government of China, underscores a continued commitment to strengthening the strategic and people-to-people ties between the two nations under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework .

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan will serve as the official nominating agency, responsible for the initial screening, shortlisting, and nomination of eligible candidates, ensuring a transparent and merit-based selection process.

A Comprehensive Educational Partnership

This Chinese Government Scholarship program is designed to support Pakistani talent across all academic levels. The scholarships are open for students pursuing Bachelor's (BS), Master's (MS), and Doctorate (PhD) degrees at renowned Chinese universities. The program covers a vast array of academic fields, allowing students to specialize in disciplines critical for national development.

A key feature of the program is the inclusion of a one-year Chinese language preparatory course for students who require it. This course is mandatory for all undergraduate scholars unless they can present a valid HSK Level 3 certificate. For Master's and PhD candidates, a wide range of both Chinese- and English-taught programs are available, providing flexibility and accessibility.

Unparalleled Financial Coverage for Scholars

The CSC scholarship offers a comprehensive financial package, ensuring that students can focus entirely on their studies without financial burdens. The coverage includes:

  • Full Tuition Fees: All educational and administrative costs are covered directly by the host Chinese university.

  • Accommodation: Scholars will be provided with free university dormitory accommodation or a monthly housing subsidy.

  • Monthly Stipend: A living allowance will be provided to all scholars, with the amount varying according to the degree level (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD).

  • Health Insurance: Comprehensive medical insurance is part of the scholarship benefits.

The HEC has clarified that it bears no financial liability, and all international travel expenses to and from China are to be managed by the scholarship awardee.

Eligibility and Mandatory Requirements

Prospective applicants must meet stringent criteria to be considered for this competitive opportunity:

  • Must be a Pakistani national or a citizen of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). Holders of dual nationality are not eligible.

  • Must be in good physical and mental health.

  • Must not be enrolled in an incomplete degree program at the application deadline.

  • Must simultaneously meet all eligibility criteria set by both the CSC and their chosen Chinese universities.

A critical prerequisite is a valid test score from the HEC aptitude tests. Applicants for Bachelor's programs must have a minimum score of 50 out of 100 in the USAT (Undergraduate Studies Aptitude Test), with results valid for one year. For Master's and PhD applicants, the same minimum score is required in the HAT (Graduate Studies Aptitude Test), valid for two years.

Furthermore, applicants seeking degrees in professional fields such as medicine, engineering, law, architecture, or veterinary science must proactively verify the accreditation of their chosen Chinese program with the respective professional councils in Pakistan (e.g., PMDC, PEC, PBC).

A Two-Tiered Application Process

Applicants are warned that a successful submission requires completion of two separate online applications. Failure to complete both will result in automatic disqualification.

  1. HEC Portal Application: Candidates must first register and submit a detailed application on the HEC’s official portal . After submission, a signed printed copy must be retained for records.

  2. CSC Portal Application: Simultaneously, applicants must apply on the CSC’s online application system. The program category is ‘Type A’, and the agency number for HEC Pakistan is 5861 . The completed application form should be downloaded and signed.

Undergraduate applicants have an additional requirement: they must appear for the CSCA Test scheduled for December 21, 2025, and obtain their score report before the final deadline.

Crucial Documentation and Deadline

The application process requires meticulous preparation of documents. Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit attested copies, including notarized educational certificates, CNIC, domicile, a valid passport, a study plan or research proposal, a Foreigner Physical Examination Form, and a Police Clearance Certificate.

The absolute deadline for submitting applications on both the HEC and CSC portals is 4:00 PM PST on Monday, January 5, 2026 . Applications on either portal after this date and time will not be entertained.

A Gateway to Future Opportunities

This scholarship program represents more than just financial aid; it is a strategic investment in the future of Pakistan-China relations. By educating the next generation of Pakistani professionals, engineers, scientists, and researchers, the initiative aims to build a robust foundation for long-term collaboration and knowledge exchange. For thousands of Pakistani students, it opens the door to world-class education and cross-cultural experiences, empowering them to contribute significantly to their homeland's progress upon their return.

For detailed information, application guidelines, and technical support, prospective applicants are advised to visit the official HEC website or contact the HEC helpline at 051-111-119-432 or 0334-111-9432.
