Career Fair 2018 Held in University of Karachi by the Department of Computer Science

The career fair was organized by Department of Computer Science, University of Karachi on Tuesday. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui attended the event. He said that the field of IT has developed in Pakistan; many youngsters are making a good career in this field. He further shared that Pakistan has ranked among top five countries in terms of best Freelancers.

He shared his views while addressing the summit, He said: “It is a great pleasure for me today to be associated with this initiative of the DCS-KU, which is geared towards the promotion of new technologies and job opportunities for the students.

“I indeed laud the initiative of the young people who are behind this event as it shows their endeavor to forge ahead and to prepare for a bright career, therefore a bright future. In fact, a job fair is an appropriate forum for interaction between jobseekers and employers and for the promotion of job opportunities.”

Many IT related projects have been inaugurated in Pakistan with assistance of China especially. Government of Pakistan is paying special importance to this field. It is also need of the time as every field is linked with information technology. The employers present in the summit were impressed by the students of Computer Science Department of Karachi University.

Dr Sadiq Ali Khan, chairman of the department, said, “The IT industry in Pakistan needs more research, we need more people to come in the field of research and invention so Pakistan can compete with other countries with regards to IT. We are living in times where basic knowledge of computer science is required everywhere.

“We have many talented developers and IT professionals in Pakistan, but there are not enough IT-related products in the market. I will encourage my students to work on producing products that go out in the international market as Pakistani products.”

A profession related to Information and Technology has become the most sought after profession after doctors and engineers. The most highly paid professionals belong to IT industry. No industry can work with computer department. From banks to hospitals, from engineering projects to polling of elections, the need of an IT professional is there.

The students who have interest related to IT field must be nourished by career counseling. These career fairs are although new in Pakistan, but globally it is a common practice. Such summits bridge gaps between students and industry and help the students prepare themselves for their profession. A few IT companies even provide scholarships to students for better training in the field.
