The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi has officially released a revised date sheet for the matriculation annual examinations that were recently postponed within Rawalpindi city limits.
The decision to reschedule the papers comes after a temporary disruption caused by administrative security measures earlier this week. Students and parents who were awaiting the new timetable can now finalize their preparation as the board has confirmed the exact dates for the affected Urdu and Geography papers.
According to an official notification issued by the BISE Rawalpindi controller of examinations, the postponed papers will be conducted on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 .
Morning Shift: The Urdu (compulsory) paper will be held in the first shift.
Evening Shift: The Geography paper will take place in the second shift on the same day.
A spokesperson for the board confirmed that aside from the date change, all other logistical aspects of the examination will remain untouched. “Examination timings and centers will remain unchanged,” the official stated, reassuring students that their previously assigned roll number slips and venue details remain valid.
The original examination schedule was interrupted after the district administration declared a local holiday within Rawalpindi city limits. The declaration was made in connection with high-profile security arrangements linked to Iran-United States talks .
Authorities deemed it necessary to tighten security protocols across the city, prompting the local government to request a postponement of academic activities at 64 designated examination centers. To avoid any risk to students and staff, BISE Rawalpindi complied with the directive, halting exams solely within the municipal limits of Rawalpindi city.
It is critical to note that the postponement was strictly localized. In an earlier statement, the board emphasized that the disruption did not affect other regions under its jurisdiction.
Exams continued as normal in other districts and suburban areas attached to the Rawalpindi division.
The original schedule remained in effect for all candidates outside the specific 64 centers in the city.
This distinction prevented a province-wide academic shutdown and allowed students in unaffected zones to continue their assessments without delay.
Following the announcement of the new date, mixed reactions emerged from the student community. While some expressed relief that the delay was minimal, others voiced concerns about the gap in study momentum.
“We were mentally prepared for the Urdu paper this week. The sudden holiday created anxiety, but now that we have a fixed date on May 2, we can restart our revision,” said Fatima Zafar, a matric student at a local public school in Rawalpindi.
Parents have urged the board to ensure that security protocols do not interfere with the remaining papers. The board has responded by stating that coordination with the district administration is ongoing to avoid further disruptions.
BISE Rawalpindi has issued the following guidelines for students appearing for the rescheduled papers:
Admit Cards: Students must bring the same roll number slip issued before the postponement.
Timing: Morning shift candidates should report by 8:00 AM, while evening shift students must be at their centers by 1:30 PM.
Center Verification: Candidates are advised to revisit their center locations a day prior to the exam to reconfirm accessibility, as security checkpoints may still be active in certain areas.
The Iran-United States talks referenced by the district administration pertain to ongoing diplomatic negotiations regarding regional stability and economic sanctions. While the talks are being held at diplomatic levels, their security implications prompted a city-wide holiday in Rawalpindi due to the presence of sensitive installations and foreign delegations in the vicinity.
This is not the first time local examinations have been rescheduled due to geopolitical events, however, BISE Rawalpindi has been praised for issuing a prompt revised schedule to minimize academic loss.

With the new date set for May 2, the board is expected to proceed with the rest of the matriculation papers according to the original timetable. Students are advised to stay in touch with their respective institutions and monitor the official BISE Rawalpindi website for any further updates.
The board has also opened a helpline for students who may face confusion regarding the shift timings or center locations. Officials reiterated that no further postponements are anticipated for the current academic session.
