The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore is a veterinary research and educational institution of government of Pakistan. The university traces its historical starting point to an office of a veterinary supervisor created back in 1882, and became officially established as a university in 1976. The faculties of UVAS have a combination of colonial-era buildings with modern lecture halls and research blocks with a large campus located in the center of the city near the city center. Its aim is to enhance livestock and poultry productivity, enhance the health of the people in the country by controlling diseases and communities that live in the rural areas. 

Programs Offered

UVAS offers a wide range of programs in the academic field at the undergraduate graduate, and postgraduate level. The five-year degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is the cornerstone that provides intensive classroom learning together with clinical training under supervision in teaching hospitals. Besides, the university has Bachelor degrees in Microbiology, Zoology, Biotechnology, Poultry Science, Dairy Technology, and Food and Supply Chain Management. To pursue advanced degrees, there are MS, MPhil, and PhD program in such fields as Animal Nutrition, Epidemiology, Genetics, Pharmacology, and Veterinary Public Health. This is because there are short courses and diploma courses that will be provided in fields such as artificial insemination of cattle, production of vaccines which enable the professionals to regularly upgrade their skills.

Facilities & Activities

The campus is well furnished with facilities that promote academic excellence, innovation in research, and wellbeing of the students. University Veterinary Hospital is a teaching clinic and it offers complete care to both large and small animals under the guidance of experts. Specific research centers are devoted to the livestock improvement, control of zoonotic diseases and the development of new vaccines. A main library has vast print and electronic resources, and special laboratories and computer facilities are used to facilitate interactive learning. Both the men and women have residential hostels that have study areas and common rooms. Extracurricular activities are encouraged through sports fields, a gymnasium, and cultural clubs, whereas the campus has a health center and a cafeteria to make students comfortable.
