Lahore UBAS

Lahore University of Biological and Applied Sciences (UBAS) or LUBAS, is a university based in the Lahore, Punjab, in the privater sector. It used to be termed Lahore Medical and Dental College (LMDC) but is currently incorporated in the Punjab group of Colleges. It became a specialized institution of higher education in the field of advanced studies on biological and applied sciences, and the university obtained its charter officially in July 2023. UBAS campus is located in almost 120 kanals adjacent to the northern canal of Lahore with state of art academic buildings and a teaching hospital equipped with all facilities. UBAS has a promise to offer contemporary education that incorporates clinical training, innovative research, and hands-on skills in the disciplines of biological, pharmaceutical, and other related health sciences.

Programs Offered

UBAS has a diverse selection of undergraduate, graduate and post graduate degrees in biological and applied sciences. Undergraduate programs at the degree-level include BS Biotechnology, BS Medical Laboratory Technology, BS Radiography and Imaging Technology, BS Human Nutrition and Dietetics, BS Forensic Science, BS Environmental Sciences, BS Anesthesia Technology, and BS Clinical Psychology. Besides, the university has professional health programs, including Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). In case of higher education, UBAS offers M.Phil and PhD programs at specialized field such as Pharmacy Practice, Physical Therapy and Biological Research. The curriculum is formulated to combine theory with practical education, which make students prepared enough to face professional and research based career.

Facilities and Activities

UBAS campus comes with a contemporary learning environment with a well-developed infrastructure and learning facilities. It has specialized biological, pharmacy and health sciences laboratories which assist in conducting practical experiments and research. A huge teaching hospital is also located on the campus, giving the students the necessary clinical exposure and practical healthcare experience. There are smart classes, multimedia lecture rooms and computer laboratories in the academic buildings, and the digital library provides access to vast amounts of research materials. The students will also have access to a wide range of extracurricular activities such as sports activities, seminars, and cultural activities. UBAS has a student-teacher ratio of approximately 12:1, which enhances intimate learning and close mentorship between the students and faculty members.

Admission Process

The university of biological and applied sciences in Lahore (UBAS) is a transparent and merit-based institution in terms of admission. The application can be done online via the formal UBAS admission portal or physically obtained at the campus by the students. All the academic qualifications such as Matric or O-Level, F.Sc or A-Level, CNIC or B-Form, domicile, and recent photographs should be attached by the applicants with attestation. Once the applications are submitted UBAS scrutinizes the applications and shortlists the qualified candidates. The shortlisted students are then invited to an interview which is done within a period of three to five days depending on the department. Subsequently, the lists of merit and waiting are also posted on the UBAS notice boards and site. Lastly, individuals who are selected in the program are required to pay their admission and tuition fees before the allocated time in order to have a guarantee that they will be enrolled in the program.

Eligibility Criteria

UBAS establishes certain eligibility criteria to every academic program, according to the level of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as well as other regulatory authorities. In case of undergraduate degree in the field of Pharmacy, Allied Health and Biological Sciences, a candidate needs to have passed Intermediate exam or other equivalents with the corresponding subject combinations of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. All programs also require the English language proficiency. In the case of postgraduate programs such as MS or M.Phil, one has to possess relevant undergraduate degree with good academic performance. Along with the application, supporting documents such as CNIC, domicile and certificates of equivalence (where necessary) should be provided. Admission is made entirely on merit and this entails that one must have the minimum eligibility requirements before they may be selected.

Fee Structure

UBAS is based on a per-credit hour system, which may or may not differ according to a program and faculty. The different tuition rates are applied in each department according to laboratory use and research elements as seen in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Allied Health Sciences and Biological Sciences. Students are charged a one time registration and admission fee when they are first enrolling. The overall cost of degree is hence calculated by the overall amount of credits to be completed.
