Established in May 2002 as a result of combined effort of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) now TDAP (Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Government of Pakistan and Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturer's Association (PHMA).
- Focus Sector is Knitwear Textiles.
- Export Development Fund) EDF provided initial funding to setup this institute.
- It has been observed that in spite of the establishment of this institute several years ago, the hosiery sector still faces shortage of trained workforce.
- The institute has been successfully running management, stitching and CAD/CAM courses.
- It still needs to establish itself to offer the courses in knitting, dyeing and textile testing technologies.
- Presently the knitwear industry needs more trained workers to cop-up with the changing trends.
- Students trained at the IKTK will be more beneficial and purpose oriented for the knitwear industry.
- The institute is trying its best to enhance its facilities and capability to fulfill present day needs.
