We are living in a period of major structural changes where global scenario of knowledge-based economy has posed a serious challenge to the developing world. Higher education is expected to play a major role of being the knowledge producer as well as a medium to train skilled knowledge workers to contribute effectively in the global knowledge-based economy. It is believed that in the 21st century countries with limited highly educated and trained manpower will lag behind and consequently may experience intellectual and economic marginalization and isolation. If higher education is not given due importance, the developing countries will further fall behind.

The programs and research focus of the institute

PIASA provides various fields of the academic study focused on diverse parts of the agribusiness industry as what people aim for. These programs cover an array of areas like agronomy, horticulture, plant breeding, agricultural economics and agricultural engineering at both bachelor's and master's level. Fundamentals of the curriculum to be taught is to be a blend of theoretic and practical so that the students can address the challenges brought by agriculture in the world now.

Additionally, Research and innovation centered approach is of PIASA key aspects. Teaching staff and students actively participate in research projects concerning the burning agricultural problems; this could be in a form of sustainable farm management, crop development, soil conservation, and agribusiness management. The collaboration with industry partners and government agencies through PIASA is the key factor in the development of agricultural science and technology that leads to farmers' prosperity in Pakistan.
