The Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology, colloquially known as NIAB, is established in the heart of the metropolitan city Faisalabad. The location of the University, on Jhang Road is very prime and ideal as it is only 7 km away from the city Centre. The highly sophisticated libraries, well established departments and residential facilities of the institution are constructed in an enclosed area of 60 acres. The institution also possess an experimental farm which is spread over 140 acres.
Ishart Hussain Usmani a Pakistani bureaucrat and an Atomic Physicists laid the foundations of the NIAB in 1965. Due to the joint efforts of Dr, Abdus Salam and Ishart Hussain , the Government of Pakistan instructed PAEC to begin the construction of NIAB.
The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission which is under the control of Federal Government sponsors and funds the NIAB. However the budget of the University is also increased by international and national level research grants and project funds gained by the scientists of NIAB.

NIAB reports directly to the Nuclear Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and the PAEC Bion agricultural Science Directorate.
