Gujranwala Medicl College was established in January, 2011 along with other three medical colleges at Sahiwal, D.G Khan & Sialkot. Dr. Atiya Mubarak Khalik Bs-20 Senio most Professor on Anatomy Department, King Edward Medical University was posted as a founder Principal of Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala. Its inauguration ceremony was held on 17th January, 2011 by the Kadme-e-Punjab "Mian Muhammad ShahbazSharif" and classes were commenced in temporary building of Home Economics College, Pasroor Raod, Gujranwala.

Now, the 5th class of MBBS will start in November, 2014 and each year institute able to produce 100 graduate of MBBS. DHQ Hospital was up-graded and declared as teaching institute after attachment with Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala from July, 2012, DHQ / Teaching Hospital consists 450 beds. DHQ Hospital was established in 1925 and its foundation was laid down by Sir Malcolm Hailey (Governor Punjab). DHQ Hospital was initailly started on 12 Acres, further 10 Acres were added in 1963 and it is only public hospital in Gujranwala c ity. The Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala is also the constituent Medical College for the UHS. The college is administratively run by the Principal Prof. Dr. Aftab Mohsin, who was held on 2011.
