Govt. College Bhakkar was established in 1960 under the control of colony Thal Textile Mills Ismailabad, Bhakkar as Ismail College Bhakkar. First Principal of this college, a well-known personality of the country and pupil of poet of the East Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, was Dr. Muhammad Shuja Namoos. The Govt. of the Punjab granted sanction to establish an Intermediate College in 1964, so the administration of Ismail College closed it and donated voluntarily all the assets of Ismail College to the Govt. of the Punjab Education Department. This college was up graded to degree level in 1971 and science classes were started in 1973. The college was shifted to its newly constructed present building situated at the junction of Khansar Darya Khan Roads. Upgraded to post- graduate level in the year 1990 with provision to teach two subjects i.e. M.A. Islamiyat and M.A. Political Science.
