Dyal Singh College was established according to the will of Sardar Dyal Singh, one of the greatest sons of Punjab, in Lahore. Sardar Dyal Singh belonged to the Shergil or Gill tribe of Sardars of Majitha village near Amritsar. In 1898 to two trusts was established Dyal Singh College and Dyal Singh Public Library in Lahore according to his will. Sardar Dyal Singh Majitha was a great humanitarian and lover of education. Dyal Singh College was taken to the government custody in the decade of 1980s when government takes over all the educational institutes. The college is one of the oldest colleges of the city Lahore and situated in the centre of the old city Lahore which is known as interior city.
