Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) was founded with an objective to foster the academic excellence and creativity of Pakistani females; especially from Punjab Province. To empower Pakistani female population that contributes 50% of the total population, Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) is opening the doors to an area that are more categorical to female occupation and entrepreneurship.
The University is located at Shafique Road, Faisalabad. The Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) has emerged from an intermediate college that was built in 1934.It gained the status of a public research university in 2013.
The University will soon have two campuses; the main and the new campus. Currently, more than eight thousand students are enrolled at GCWUF. The GC Women University offers various graduate and post graduate programs like Ph.D programs, MS/M.Phil programs, Master level programs and Bachelor Programs in its four academic faculties where highly qualified, experienced and skilled mentors are providing their teaching services . As the university was primarily an intermediate college, the institution is still offering intermediate level courses at the university premises.
The faculties serving at the university includes: Faculty of Management and Administrative Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Faculty of Islamic and Oriental Learning. A new PhD faculty is also being placed under the Interim Placement of Fresh PhDs (IPFP) Program. The university works with The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) for conducting and expanding the research programs and linking with industry and civil society.
The University is very considerate about the deprived students who are willing to seek education. To cater such bright minds, scholarships based on merit as well as need are provided to eligible students.
The history of Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) dated back to pre-partition period as the university was formerly established as an intermediate college in 1934. It was then promoted to a Degree College in the year 1944.After four long decades in 1985, the postgraduate disciplines were introduced. Finally the institution was recognized as a degree awarding University on 3rd January 2013.
Though the university was located in a conventional set-up, in the serene atmosphere of Madina Town, yet, continuous struggles are being carried- out to craft state-of-the-art infrastructure through modernized academic blocks, up-to-date ICT or computer laboratories, female hostels, library, auditorium, play grounds, etc. The University presently contains two libraries. A main library and a post graduate library with diverse collection of books and other reading materials. Four University buses run on assigned routes in different zones of the city. The permission to avail this transport facility is reserved with the university administration. To accommodate students from distant areas particularly from suburban towns and villages, the University campus includes two hostels within its premises.
Extra and Co-curricular Activities:
Many co-curricular societies are working at the university to encourage female talents in different fields. Some examples are: Literary Society, Dramatic Society, Business Society, Scientific Society and Quiz Society. These co-curricular activities help in character building of the students and develop effective ethical and moral values among them. The students are also trained with present day technology usage to get better earning opportunities.
To promote healthy competition within departments of the University and participation of GCWUF Sports Team in Pakistan Inter Universities Sports Competition, a sport center is functioning at the university, Under the auspices of Higher Education Commission Islamabad.
GCWUF mission is to provide a learning atmosphere based on interactive strategies where education is transported through discussion and exchange of ideas. It aims to built-in highest moral and ethical values among its students that will develop ideal feminine personalities. The strong bond between students and teachers will help to achieve the goal of preparing well-educated and cultured women of Pakistan.
