Gomal University DI Khan History

Gomal University is known as one of the chartered universities in Pakistan. It occupies the 12th position among the universities listing under seniority of HEC.

The university founded by the prime minister of Pakistan Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in Dera Ismail Khan, KPK when the foundation stone laid down by him on May 1st, 1974. Bhutto inaugurated the institute with the aim to meet the challenges of the modern world in all aspects of life. Initially the fund and land, for the establishment of this institute, were provided by Nawab Allah Nawaz Khan who also served himself as the first vice-chancellor of this university. 11000 Kn agricultural land for the establishment of this university was provided by Nawab.

Under Act No. X of 1974 the university was categorized as the public sector university of Pakistan. In 2013, the university started providing the distance learning or education system and in2014 the department of Saraiki language was also introduced to this university. Currently, the university is offering education under a large number of faculties and study programs including science, arts, management, business, medical, and all other demanding programs.
