The foundation stone of DOW University were laid down in December 1945, by the second governor of Sindh Sir HUGH Dow.Therefore the university is named after him.Dow University is known to be one of the oldest premium higher education institution in Pakistan. The Dow University of Health Sciences is located in the heart of Karachi which is an industrial hub and the metropolitan city of Pakistan. This prestigious institution is counted among the top medical schools of Pakistan. The HEC has declared it as the top medical school of Pakistan for four consecutive years from 2010 to 2014.This illustrious higher education institution has a number of academic faculties that offer undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral programs relating to medicine and applied sciences.

There are two leading health science undergraduate research institutions in the Dow University: Dow International Medical College and Dow Medical College. A well-established department of post graduate studies also exists in the university which provides numerous medical diagnostic and therapeutic services. The post graduate department also supervises and conducts numerous medical and clinical programs, workshops and seminars for the pupil of Dow University.
Several prestigious and highly reputed institutions and organizations are affiliated with Dow University of Health Sciences. Liver Transplant Unit, Sindh Medical College, Dow College of Pharmacy, Institute of Nursing and Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation are some of the many affiliations of Dow University of Health Sciences.
DUHS envisions to become a leading university in the field of medical education by producing competitive students, generating useful collaborations and creating contextual resources.Dow University emphasizes of research in health and medicine so that the overall health system of Pakistan can be imporved.They envision to create such a health system that is equivalent to international standards.
Dow University of Health Sciences also publishes a journal called “The Journal of the Dow University of Health Sciences. “This journal is a health and science journal which is published after every 4 months. The journal has received recognition from the PMDC. This journal which is created and maintained by the students and faculties is also available online.
