UMT Shines at National Weightlifting Championship 2026

UMT Athletes Bring Pride to Both the University and the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Says Ibrahim Hasan Murad

The weightlifters of University of Management and Technology (UMT) delivered an outstanding performance at the National Weightlifting Championship 2026, winning 6 Gold and 4 Silver medals and setting a new benchmark of excellence. Owing to the remarkable performance of UMT athletes, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) secured the Overall Championship Trophy in both the men's and women's categories.

Chairman and President of UMT, Ibrahim Hasan Murad, congratulated the UMT family, athletes, coaches and support staff on this remarkable achievement. He said that UMT's weightlifters, through their hard work, dedication and exceptional talent, had brought honor not only to the University but also to the HEC at the national level.

Murad stated that UMT is committed to excellence not only in academics but also in promoting sports through modern training facilities, professional coaching and the holistic development of talented athletes. He added that these efforts are producing outstanding results at the national level and reaffirmed UMT's commitment to providing young people with opportunities to excel in sports alongside academic excellence.

A total of 10 UMT weightlifters represented HEC in the championship and showcased exceptional skill and determination. In the women's events, Maham Qasim, Arfa Mushtaq, Aqsa Bashir, Zoha Javed, Fiza Khokhar, along with other athletes delivered impressive performances. In the men's competitions, Sameer Butt, Noor Mustafa, Ahmad Butt, Syed Uzair, Mujahid Rasool and other athletes played a pivotal role in securing the championship through their outstanding performances.

During the championship, HEC Team Manager and UMT Sports Incharge Ali Raza played a vital role in guiding the team, managing operational affairs and providing continuous support to the athletes, which significantly contributed to the team's success.

Chairman HEC Dr. Niaz Ahmad and HEC DG Sports Rizwan Shaukat also congratulated UMT on its remarkable achievement. Dr. Niaz Ahmed said that the credit for this success goes to the unwavering dedication of the UMT management, coaches, support staff and athletes, whose teamwork and commitment made this historic victory possible. He expressed confidence that the UMT Markhors would continue to bring further national and international honors to Pakistan and the HEC in the years to come.
