Do we still feel confused between marketing and sales? I see marketing as a ground and sales as plants on it. See, without marketing you would not have prospects or leads to follow up with, but yet without a good sales technique and strategy, marketing cannot produce a fertile land. Marketing with its tools enables us to tap the prospects. The sales enables us to process is everything that we do to close the sale and get an agreement or contract. So both marketing and sales are necessities to the success of any organization and organizational success is never possible without either of the two. If both marketing and sales are combined strategically it results in the business success & growth, and unbalanced marketing and sales strategies create hurdles in the way to organizational success.

A sale is usually done by a meetings, group meetings, and individual meetings, calls, emailing and networking or personal selling. It's anything that engages you with the prospect or customer on a personal level rather than at a distance. Sales is, making the customer buy the product or service, using best interpersonal and interact ional skills

Marketing starts from self marketing to advertising, E-Marketing, Customer relationship management, brand promotional activities, viral marketing, direct mail, B2B marketing, B2C marketing. Marketing consists of the tools and techniques used to tap and persuade the prospects that you are the company for them. Marketing conveys the message, which prepares the sales to carry it forward. The marketing efforts begin the process of the eight contacts that studies show it takes to move a prospect or potential client to the close of the sale. If marketing is done effectively you can begin to move that prospect from a cold to a warm lead. When the prospect hits the "warm" level it's much easier for the sales professional to close the sale.

Roles of marketer and sales person: Apart from this relationship, a marketer role starts from before planning an industry, to check on the market needs, requirements, values, etc. Across to the planning of the product package and appearance towards the planning of the strategies to sell that product. All during the planning stages; the marketer should be aware of his market, should have all the d data about the macro environment as well as the micro status surrounding the launch of the new product. The Sales role comes after, to make sure that the strategies have been implemented, and sales have been done. A wise salesman does not wait for a marketer to draw his annual targets. He should refer to the marketing strategy and accordingly design his own targets and break them down into segments and months. The activity of the salesman in the market rewards the marketing strategy which has been put by the marketer.

Once you have moved your prospect to the "warm" level it's time to proceed in closing the sale. This will be easier to do if you somehow engage the prospect. You can do this by conducting a one-on-one call, make a presentation, or present a proposal, estimate, or contract.

Balance between marketing and sale is necessary in all organizations. Over marketing and less selling efforts can bring product surplus in the market. Whereas, less marketing and over selling efforts can bring a product shortage in the market, so the both situations result in imbalance in the market.
