Initially the B.Com program was started at the University of Birmingham. The School of Commerce at the university was initiated by William Ashley (an Englishman from Oxford University). In 1892 he went England to the new University of Birmingham and started School of Commerce and later on started B.Com degree programs during the British Empire. In 18th century economists separated the English economy into three groups: agriculture, manufacturing, and commerce. In the field of Commerce, programs such as transportation, marketing, and financing of goods were included. Punjab University has also introduced inclusive courses to fulfill the demands of today and give a sound base to expand business environments. All the hopefuls of B.Com have to study the prescribed courses in two years under the annual examination system and must follow the time schedule of registration, admission, date sheets and exams. The university has the right of any suitable change without any prior notice.
