Lahore, The University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore in collaboration with Nova University Lisbon (NUL), Portugal is going to start an International Master’s degree program in Mental Health Policy and Services. The initiative has been taken by the World Health Organization (WHO) to introduce such program. 

 
According to the declaration notification, the course is already been offered in Nova University with the cooperation of Department of Mental Health and Substance Dependence of the WHO. The targeted countries with low and middle income are suitable for this program. The program is being initiated in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean regions especially in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan, etc.
 
At first 20 candidates will be registered through selection criteria set by UHS and NUL. A delegation also visited the UHS Board of Governors member Prof Malik Hussain Mubbashar and Academic Council member Prof Mowaddat Hussain Rana to Nova University, Lisbon. Prof Mubbashar while speaking on the occasion said that for the first time the program is being introduced in the region.  The course will be helpful to produce human resource which would be helpful for the government in the preparation and execution of mental health policies and legislations in the area, he said. 
 
He said the sections of the course will be setup by the two universities. Prof Mubbashar said that next year the joint master’s program will be introduced.
