UET female teacher harassed by security staff

Lahore: A female teacher of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore has claimed that she was physically harassed as well as attacked by the security staff of the university outside her home on Wednesday evening.

The victim teaches at Kala Shah Kaku (KSK) campus of University of Engineering and Technology. The vice-chancellor of varsity has formed a 5-member committee to investigate the issue after a formal complaint was launched by teachers.

Furthermore, the teacher is a resident of a colony near the Kala Shah Kaku campus.

According to the female teacher, a senior security member also lived in the area and recently had an argument along with the teacher. During the argument, the security official threatened her with dire outcomes.

Afterwards on Wednesday evening, the official apparently attacked her driver who was sleeping in the vehicle parked outside her home.

When she came out of her house and tried to cool down the official, he allegedly attacked the driver and she was also hurt in the conflict.

The official called up the guards of university and they beat the driver, whereas the faculty member was also pushed in the process.

The guards also brandished weapons, frightening the residents of the neighbourhood, she added.

While talking to the media sources, Teacher Staff association (TSA) President Dr Muhammad Shoaib confirmed that the female faculty member complained she was harassed by the security staff.

The five members of the committee visited the Kala Shah Kaku Campus on Thursday to investigate the issue.

A teacher of the campus, requesting secrecy, said that the ‘attack’ was alarming. “Those who are hired to protect us are attacking us. We feel harassed by our own security guards and we don’t feel safe,” he added.
