Sialkot, The Punjab government is planning to distribute around 8000 solar panels to the local talented students in Sialkot district. The solar panels would be distributed under the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s Ujala Scheme.

The Sialkot DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal has informed that the district management of Sialkot has also finalized the required paper work for this purpose. CM would distribute the solar panels during his soon visit to Sialkot.

Punjab Education Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has said that quality of education with modern technologies is essential for removal of poverty and illiteracy. He expressed his views while addressing an annual prize distribution ceremony of an education institute at Alhamra Cultural Complex.

Mujtaba said the Punjab government is working for the development of education sector and up gradation of higher education in the province and had also established 50 colleges during the last four years, out of which 12 colleges were in established in Lahore. He further said that government is also delivering financial support to the private educational institutes for advancement of education.  For this purpose Rs6.50 billion would be given to the private educational institutions through the Punjab Education Foundation.

New women universities has also been set up in Bahawalpur, Multan, Sialkot and Faisalabad to increase the ratio of higher education among women while special financial assistance was being provided to the women institutions.

Around Rs195 billion would be consumed on education which consists of 25 percent of the budget of Punjab province, he said. The Punjab government had eliminated seats of self-finance in medical colleges and engineering universities and those students achieving merit can only get admission in these institutes.

Scholarships of Rs10 billion has been awarded to 50,000 students from the Punjab Education Endowment Fund this year and IT labs had been established in over 5,000 high schools and 515 middle schools, Mujtaba said. He said modern science labs had been made in 1,000 high schools of the province at a cost of Rs1 billion. Over 70,000 teachers had been hired on merit in all over the province.
