Lahore, Member National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Sharif has said that special quota will be reserved for special children in the next package of laptop distribution.

The employees of Special Education Department will soon listen to good news of considerable increase in their salaries, he added.

He revealed this news while addressing a ceremony held in connection with International Day of Special Persons at Alhamra Hall on Monday. Special Education Department had arranged this ceremony with the cooperation of UNESCO, which was attended by Advisor to CM on Special Education, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Provincial Ministers, Ch Abdul Ghafoor, Muhammad Iqbal Channar, Dr Amjad Saqib, Secretary Special Education Abdullah Khan Sumbal, representative of UNESCO Arshad Saeed, MNAs, MPAs, special children and their teachers and parents. The special children presented skits, tableau shows and national songs.

Hamza said that special persons are the collective responsibility of our society and the government. He said Punjab government is exploiting all the resources for removing lacks of this section and their restoration.

He further said that sports and rehab centre would be arranged for the special children and the special places for special children in Bagh-e-Jinnah and Jillani Park would soon be completed. He said that the decision of increasing employment quota of special persons from 2 percent to 3 percent will be implemented during the current month. He distributed wheel chairs and other helpful devices among special persons at the ceremony.

Moreover, An education trust arranged an event titled “Friendship Circle” to express unity with special persons at Liberty on Monday.

The event was attended by students of different institutes while PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz, Dr Saeed Elahi, Dr Sameea Raheel Qazi, Dr Amjad Saqib, Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar and Syed Aamir Mehmood also joined them on the eve of World Disability Day.

Dr Waseem Akhtar said unfortunately persons with disabilities met obstacles to participate in all aspects of life in Pakistan. He added persons with disabilities did not have access to society or services in true spirits including education, employment, health care, transportation and political participation etc.

Dr Sameea and Syed Amir said experience had proved that when barriers were removed and persons with disabilities were empowered to participate fully in societal life, entire community promoted.
