Islamabad, The government is going to establish a degree college for special students, Federal Minister for Capital Administration and Development Nazar Muhammad Gondal said.
 
He was speaking at an event arranged by the Directorate General of Special Education and Social Welfare and Ministry of Capital Administration and Development to commemorate International Day for Persons with Disabilities.
 
He said that for this purpose all the efforts will be made for the realisation of the rights of Persons with Disabilities and special steps will be made to speed up the implementation of all the relevant laws for disabled community.
 
Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal Managing Director Zamurrud Khan said that special children are the special friends of Pakistan and Bait-ul-Mal has considered a special initiative program to provide social protection to persons with disabilities.
 
He further shared that Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal has given 90,000 wheelchairs, 20,000 white canes, 30,000 hearing aids along with provision of uniforms to children of Special Education Centre working under the Directorate General of Special Education and Social Welfare, Ministry of Capital Administration and Development.
 
Earlier, a colourful performance was presented by the Special Children from National Special Education Centres working under the Directorate General of Special Education in connection with International Disabled Day.
 
International Day for Persons with Disabilities is celebrated all over the world as an annual feature on December 3 every year in order to show solidarity with Persons with Disabilities. The theme of International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2012 is ‘Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all.’
 
Another prominent event organised to mark the day was a symbolic solidarity walk by Special Talent Exchange Program (Step) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) in collaboration with Life for the World, CHEF International, and Sightsavers in the premises of Serena Hotel Islamabad.
 
Around 400 persons with disabilities, people from all spheres of society, representatives of government, international development organisations, UN representatives joined the event. Advisor to Human Rights Minister Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar was the chief guest on the occasion.
 
Unesco Representative Dr. Kozue Kay Nagata said that Unesco in collaboration with government and different NGOs and INGOs will work for the rights of Persons with Disabilities. She further said that collaborative efforts can create better results.
 
President STEP Atif Sheikh demanded that voice of PWDs should be incorporated in Millennium Development Goals.
