PU introduces new BA, BSc exams policy

Punjab University, the oldest educational institute in the sub-continent, will for the very first time in the history of its 133 years, holds BA and BSc annual exams in two parts rather than the combined exam.

Controller of Examination, Punjab University Professor Dr Shahid Munir describing the unique features of this newly introduced policy told APP that in the past, the BA and BSc annual combined were conducted after two years from the date of succeeding intermediate exams, which according to him was actually a burden on students.

He moreover added that long-winded discussion was directed and also varsity high-level academic council consisting of all deans as well as chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran in principle permitted to hold the BA BSc annual exams in part-I and II from 2016 and also ended the old system of combined exams from 2017.

The organization at this recent meeting furthermore completely permitted the decisions of the academic council. During his address he said that the main purpose of the philosophy behind it was to lessen the load on students, better distribution of knowledge as well as to enhance the academic profile of the aspirants. Dr Shahid said that all the recognized institutes had already been heading for the course outlines of BA or BSc might be divided or revised into two parts along with the reviewed regulations and also the individual exam to be hold from upcoming years on the pattern of Secondary School certificate, higher secondary school certificate, BCom, LLB and MA or MSc.

While conversing and discussing about supplementary exams, he said that the aspirant failing in two subjects might not be announced as full fail candidate and will be allowed to appear in supplementary exams in just failing subjects. Dr Shahid said that approximately 138,000 regular as well as private candidates took part in annual exams BA / BSc 2015 that were conducted last month. About the university he said that it was the largest government sector university in Pakistan along with the highest number of 80 teaching disciplines with the affordable fee structure and considered as the third best university.
