Pakistan with lowest partaking ratio in Google Summer of Code 2016

Lahore: Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2016 has just got started and Google had some quite interesting figures of this programme with all of us. Almost 1206 aspirants from the entire world have taken part in it and India is leading the crowd with most numbers of partakers at 454.

Only 4 candidates from Pakistan took part in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2016.

In Google Summer of Code 2016 Pakistan is among the countries with the lowest partaking ratio this year.

The total number of partakers from the developed countries is shockingly low. UK with only 18 contestants, China with 34 and Germany with 66 contestants appears in Google Summer of Code.

About Google Summer of Code (GSoC)

Google Summer of Code is an international program that focused on introducing aspirants to open source software development. Through this programme students work on a 3 month programming project along with an open source firm during their summer holidays from university.

Since its launch in 2005, the program has brought together approximately 11K participants who have gone on to write more than 50 million lines of code for nearly 515 open source companies.

GSoC is actually a very long procedure that started in the beginning of February this year. First Open Source Organizations applied to get on board along with the program. When they were selected, then the student application procedure got started.

Now the accepted students are paired with a counselor and start planning their projects and targets. This year, on 23^rd May, the coding sessions properly start as the selected students started working on their allotted projects.

Those who succeed will submit their projects for final assessments and after that the winner will be announced on August 30, 2016.
