Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Punjab government is going to start a program for students of Matric and Intermediate which is one of the major initiative of “Ujala Program” and is free of cost. In this connection solar lamps would be distributed among girl and boy students. He further said that students are suffering due to worst energy crisis.

He said that agriculture, industry, commerce, education, health and other social sectors have been suffering hard. He has conversant that Punjab government has taken steps for free-of-cost solar lamps distribution, among girl and boy students of Matric and Intermediate, under “Ujala Program”.

He expressed these view while presiding over a meeting which was organized regarding the “Chief Minister Ujala Program”, at Model Town. The meeting was attended by Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Member National Assembly Saira Afzar Tarar, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Energy and secretaries of other departments along with Chief Executive ‘Akhuwat’ Dr. Amjad Saqib.

Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif while speaking on this occasion said that crises of electricity has badly disturbed the lives of the people and resulting ending commercial undertakings and execution millions of workers jobless due to closure of industries.
 
He further said that Punjab government is taking steps to execute other energy projects like “Ujala Program” which is being started to enable students to continue their academic activities and lamps would be distributed among girl and boy students.

The solar lamps would be distributed, purely on merit basis among the girl and boy student of government educational institutions, he said. Chief Minister announced that over two lakh solar lamps would be given throughout the province, while all arrangements have been made in this regard. CM Punjab also orders to assess the possibility of providing solar lamps to the students of religious seminaries.

Secretary Energy, Jahanzeb Khan presented a detailed briefing regarding solar lamps distribution, among the students under “Chief Minister Ujala Program”.
