Karachi: Tired from driving passengers round about the city in his rickshaw, Hameer Ali comes home and studies whole night. He continues to work tirelessly to chase his dream of becoming an engineer.

‘A man can be destroyed but not defeated’, is the famous phrase that the 20 years old always used to tell himself whenever he felt like giving up.

In spite of the financial issues, he is presently chasing studying telecommunication engineering from Dawood University of Engineering and Technology.

“We live in a society where the where lack of education is undoubtedly a serious issue,” said Ali.

“Only some lucky people are able to get it while the rest continue to suffer.”

In year 2008, when Ali was studying in 8th grade, his father, Manzoor Hussain, retired from the post of an accountant from a bank in Sukkur.

“I never allowed my family members to interfere in my life,” said Ali.

“Since we were facing a lot of financial issues and it led a big question mark on my studies however, my family always supported me.” Among his siblings, Ali is the only one who is chasing pursuing higher education.

Four of his brothers have completed their study till matric and two of them also drive a rickshaw. The family lives in Bilawal Shah Noorani Goth, Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

Ali has wanted to be an engineer since childhood, said Hussain. All young people should continue with the same passion and dedication to get education as it will help them, he added.

The English Access Micro-scholarship Program, presented by the US Consulate, Karachi, played a vital role in helping Ali in accomplishing his achievement.
