ITU working with PITB on Big Data Project

Information Technology University (ITU) has join hand along with Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) for a ‘Big Data Project’ through which immense data sets, which then cannot be processed through the outdated data processing platforms, can be saved, accessed as well as actively managed.

In a handout that was issued yesterday, ITU Vice-Chancellor Dr Umar Saif said that this project will definitely be a positive step towards linking democratic worth in the society along with the conceptions of access to information, accountability and good authority in the form of its main aims.’

Dr Umar Saif has moreover said that this Big Data project will also help the residents in attaining their ‘right to information’ more efficiently and was giving feedback with the help of the resident feedback programmes, that can be later assessed by the government to upsurge the efficacy of their respective departments and services and take suitable measures to lessen and to control the corruption. This project will also support government in handling data to address the disquiets like crimes, diseases and also forecast social trends and command their resources into the programmes to take positive social changes.

 The Data Science Lab of the university is working in close association with the IBM research in Dublin on the projects abut research. Experts, students and research subordinates are working on two main big data platforms; Hadoop and Spark through, which both organized and formless data sets of massive volume, assortment and velocity can be administered for the cherished insights.

 Dr. Faisal Kamran, Director of Data Science Lab, said that the “Big Data concept was undoubtedly new in Pakistan however it had been proved to be effective for governments as well as organizations in the entire world. The beginning of such an effective project will be an important step which will make the residents complete and active applicants in a self-ruled state. This project will also assist the students of ITU for future prospects in national as well as the international information and technology job market.’’
