HEC to award Rs 23m scholarships to GCUF students

Faisalabad, Students of Government College University Faisalabad to get scholarships of Rs 23 million which would be provided by Higher Education Commission with the support of World Bank. Vice Chancellor of GC University Faisalabad Zakir Hussain was chairing a meeting at the financial aid office of the students and revealed this news by saying that this initiative will support over 214 students.
 
He praised such initiatives of HEC for the up gradation of higher education and said that in the last decade over 10, 000 local and abroad students had got scholarships by HEC and supported the students all over the country. Dr Hussain said that due to such initiatives the registrations of students at universities throughout Pakistan had improved from 330,000 to more than a million. The enrollment and ratio of female education at university level had also been increased for 36 percent to 46 percent, he added.

The GCUF financial aid office was established in 2007 with the support of Higher Education Commission Islamabad.

The GC University firstly started functioning as a primary school in 1897 in the present building of Govt. College for Women, Karkhana Bazar, Faisalabad. Further it was promoted to High School and Intermediate College in 1905 and 1924 respectively.

Then it was upraised to the degree level in 1933 and postgraduate disciplines were introduced in 1963. The university got the degree awarding status in October 2002.

The GC University, Faisalabad has a long history of excellence and distinction as an institution. Renowned scholars and eminent personalities have presented their role in the institution in various capacities at various stages of its history. It has produced outstanding personnel who have earned great fame not only for themselves but also for the nation.

The celebrities like Mr. Abdul Hameed, Mr. W.H.F. Armstrong, Mr. Lala Chattan Annand, Mr. Hashmat Khan, Mr. Taj Khyal, Mr. Namdar Khan, Mr. Karamat Hussain Jafari, Mr. Mukhtar Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Asif Iqbal Khan and Dr. Arif Zaidi have made great achievements to serve this institution.
