AIOU to launch its own educational TV channel

Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) have decided to launch its own Educational television channel in the end of this year to deliver media-based academic support to its aspirants as well as to promote online distance learning nationally and internationally.

The necessary steps for this purpose have been taken and now they will formally approach to PEMRA for its approval, said VC of AIOU Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while heading the Task-Group’s quarterly-review meeting of Institute of Educational Technology (IET).  

Mainly it is the part of continuous efforts of University of providing quality and enhanced education to their students by smart use of electronic network, he added.  He moreover said that their department of IET is playing an impressive role for organizing media and technology-based academic programs for the benefit of students.

A web-channel of the University is already functioning successfully whereas the number of its receivers has reached in thousands. 

He moreover appreciated Director of IET Mir Mukhtar Ahmed Talpur and his team for their hard work in formulating multimedia academic programs and expanding FM’s radio network in Pakistan. Presently FM radio is going live from the main campus from 8 am to 9 pm, along with variety of educational programs.

Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that FM radio services of AIOU will be available in seven regional offices crosswise the statetill the end of this year. They are also in procedure of launching short-courses for the professionals of media.

A complete plan has also been made for online-conducting of PhD and Phil programs. The aspirants will get electronic version of their study stuff. All the assignments will also be received and assessed accordingly, he added.
