Islamabad, The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is going to hold Asian Association of Open Universities Annual Conference 2013 which would be helpful to increase regional collaboration to improve illiteracy and enhance the quality of education through distance learning and e-learning systems.

AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi while addressing at the 25th Meeting of Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) said that required arrangements for the conference were already proceeding.

He expressed his views that AIOU will encourage research work at higher education level for setting regional problems and national matters like energy crisis, illiteracy and unemployment. University students while working on research work needed to focus on socio-economic issues challenged by the country. They should cooperate with the government and concerned organizations to find out the solutions, he added.

He emphasized that it is the requirement of the present time to make essential amendments in ongoing research procedures. Creative research work in universities must be encouraged so that it could be helpful to plan the policies for community support.

Over 60 research papers and proposals of MPhil and PhD level proposed by AIOU’s faculties were presented in the board’s meeting for further consideration.
